Scrapbookaholic by Abby Challenge

Happy Monday!!  Can you tell I'm super excited about this?!!!!!!!!!  This is the very first Scrapbookaholic by Abby Challenge!!  WAHOOOO!  This week the theme is 'Pick Your Own Holiday' (think of the possibilities)!  You can find several ideas for holiday by clicking here or any other website that shows national celebrations in March.

For this challenge I went with Johnny Appleseed Day!  Depending on the website you look at it can either be March 11 or March 18.  Nobody knows the exact date of his death so they don't know exactly when to celebrate the day.  I love this time of year because you know the beautiful blossoms are coming out which means that we get to eat (and can) yummy apples!!  So, in celebration of Johnny Appleseed Day I made this card. :)

The card is a normal A2.  The apple is from Preserves cut at 3.25 (I tried some of the doodling/stitching - what do you think?).  I found this phrase and just wrote it on a scratch piece of paper.  The background paper is from Cosmo Cricket Garden Variety stack.  This actually leads me to the sponsor of the challenge this week . . .Cosmo Cricket!!!

You Make Me Smile!

I'm in love with this one!!!!  Let me explain it a little and then I'll show you. :)

One of my sweet friends told me about Debi at Dizzy Lizzy's Creations.  She has a post (click here to see it) where she tells about a very special moment that she had involving butterflies.  I don't want to tell her story, but you really should go read this post.  When I read it, I cried; it really is such a sweet story!!!!  Well, she challenged people to make a card with butterflies.  So, Debi, here's my take on your story/challenge!!!!

All of the papers are scraps (sorry, no brand names).  I cut the butterfly from the Hannah Montana cartridge at 3.5.  The card base is from the the Preserves cartridge.  Of course, I had to bling it up and use some Stickles.  It smudged a little.  My little ones were getting ready for bed and kept giving me hugs, which made for a very unsteady hand. :)  Oh well, I LOVE THOSE HUGS!!!!!!

Preserves Cartridge DT Post

Did anyone else have a short weekend?!  Mine felt like it!!!! :)  Today is my DT guest post over at Ink It Up Crazy!!!  Kassidy has asked the DT members to go through the older cartridges and create a project.  For mine, I'm using the Preserves cartridge.  I really like this cart; the layers are super simple, and it has so many unique card and label cuts.  I know that if I did a lot of canning (which I'm learning to do thanks to my in-law family) I would use it even more!  So - here's my creation!!!! :)

It is a very simple card!  Every single cut was made from the Preserves cartridge.  Although I used my Gypsy to space everything on my mat (I love using scraps); I didn't tamper (stretch, skew, or weld) any of the images.  Here are all of the pieces before it was assembled.

So super simple; here are the measurements:
card base: 5.25
polka dot base: 3.0
red label base: 1.25
cherry (and layers): 2.5

Now I did add some eyelets to the label (I didn't have the right color of brads) as well as some Glossy Accents to the cherries and non-brand Stickles to the cherry leaves.  Throw a few pop dots on the cherries and the label and . . . voila!!

Teacher Gift

Wow, it's been crazy at my house; it seemed like it was one thing after another.  Well, I've been working on this project for a while now (I know - terrible)!!  My oldest just started kindergarten and LOVES it!!  Between riding the bus, meeting new people and learning new things she couldn't be happier!!  I made this little gift for her teacher. 

I used a recipe box I got on sale to hold the cards (looking back I wished I would have decorated the box . . . oh well).  For the cards I just printed off the sentiment on a few sheets of beautiful cardstock that I have.  I made it so that I could cut 8 cards out of one sheet of paper.  I cut out a few apples from the Preserves cartridge and used some stamps I had for the rest of them.  I thought the teacher might like a little bit of variety.  I also made the teacher a quick card with this little poem I thought of.

We wanted to thank you
For all that you do
So this simple card set
Was made just for you
A handwritten note
Can always reach
The hearts of the children
You lovingly teach
For praise or reward
To brighten their day
For you to use
In just about any way
Again, we just wanted
To gratefully say
Thank you for everything
You do every day!!

First - I'm Sorry!!!!! Second - CARD!!! :)

First I have to apologize!  It's been a while since I've posted a card or any other project.  Between family visiting, getting my oldest ready for school, and scouting for deer (we love to hunt) I haven't been able to make many cards.  So - I'm sorry it's been so long!!!!

Second - CARD!!!  I had a meeting to go to and my DH was at work so I asked one of the ladies in my area if she would watch my little ones for a bit.  My kids love her and her family and she was graceful enough to watch them (she even let them go for a ride with her DH on a combine).  So, I gave her a loaf of banana bread and this card.  She loved it and her boys at all of the banana bread - so that was a big hit.  Thanks again Terri!!!!!!!!

I used Preserves for the watermelon and Plantin Schoolbook for the letters.  Of course - I used my Gypsy to weld the letters together.  Just don't look at the 'm', my little spatula accidentally scraped a little of the 'm' away from the rest of the paper.  Ok - it was me!!  I was in a rush and scraped a little bit of it. :)
